CLASS LESSONS: Stories of Vulnerable Youth
By Lucy E.M. Black

This book is a must-read for educators, administrators, parents and anyone who works with vulnerable youth. These stories, in their clear-eyed truths, will resonate with any reader who’s ever known what it means to care for someone else and be cared for. Every chapter captures the story of a different youth’s life through trauma, abuse, identity crisis and harrowing neglect. And while the stories themselves are moving and masterfully told, I learned the most from the principal’s insights and actions. It isn’t enough to say this happened; Black tells us-shows us- what can be done, and how to help. If you are in any way in charge of youth, this book is for you.

*A note on my book reviews. I only review books that I like. I have not been paid to endorse the books I choose, though in some cases I may have received a free copy of the book in exchange for a potential review (at my discretion). I read many more books that I love than I’m able to review. I prioritize Canadian literature. Thanks for reading.
